“mental disorder,” for the acceptance and recognition of LGBT rights
in the Law. The group also working on Gender Equality Act to ensure
that the law is is designed to protect members of the LGBT community
and aims to punish discrimination based on gender identity and sexual
orientation.
TGA also produced guidelines for parents of transgenders. The
common goal of these activities was to change the attitude of people
in the society. Advocacy for policy change on gender sensitiveness
and sexuality is a long process and slow process. It requires patience
and perseverance, but this did not discourage the network’s members
who continue to adopt new approaches and strategies in promoting
an understanding in alternative genders within the Thai society. “To
work towards changing people’s attitude and the policy so that it is
more sensitive about sexuality and sexual orientation involve a long
process, which requires intensive and continuous activities. However,
change is something we can all trigger that is changing and adapting
ourselves. If you do not judge people who are different and accept
the diversity, you will discover that this world does not only have men
and women. We live in the world with gender variety where all human
beings have equal rights and freedom”.
