activities where she became aware that oftentimes “Katoey” were
victims of violence and abuses from the public sector and their family.
Many Katoey have been living under pressure in order to prove their
“acceptability.”
“In the level of acceptance as human being, we do not need
to prove that we are good, beautiful or what sexual group we belong
to. But to gain acceptance as a Katoey, you have to be beautiful, have
good grades and a well respected job. This does not apply to other
genders,” Nicha expressed her feelings on the society’s perspective of
“Katoey”.
Kath Khngpiboon, another board member of TGA said that
“Human beings should respect and honor each other. We feel that
whoever you are, how much money you have, whatever status in the
society you hold, or whatever gender you perceive yourself to be,
everyone should be equally treated”.
Jetsada Taesombat ,the coordinator of the TGA said that Our
work is not just for transgenders(Katoey). We are working towards a
better society for all persons, free of prejudice, discrimination and/
or stigmatization based on, amongst others, sexual orientation. We
aspire for a society where there is mutual respect, based on values
and principles of equality and dignity
Sexual prejudice towards “Katoey” pushed TGA to work
intensively to fight misconceptions, believes and prejudices in the
society. The network had organized activities and campaigns on many
issues, for example, working with other LGBT networks to push forward
the draft of Marriage Act, improvement of official government
